Barley

Barley is considered to be a good food for babies, as it is filling, and has plenty of nutritive properties. It is a rich source of dietary fibre, barley can help stimulate digestion and regulate your child’s bowel movements.

Licorice

Licorice is known to soothe and coat sore throats, and helps eliminate phlegm and mucous in the nose, throat and lungs. A decoction of liquorice mixed with honey will provide relief from dry cough.

Winter Cherry

Roots of Winter cherry are highly acclaimed tonic for brain and nervous system in Ayurveda. Its usage is recommended in preventive health care. It is considered as "Medhya" which implies to its beneficial effects to the brain.

To 15 gms of Barley seeds add about 200 ml of water. Soften the seeds by cooking them in a pressure cooker. Take the supernatant water by eliminating the softened seeds. If it is too thick add a little more water.

Let it cool. Sweeten this preparation with Glucose powder added to one or two drops of strained lemon juice and a pinch of salt.

This preparation is meant to be given to your infant in small volumes with the help of a small spoon during the afternoon. You can use this recipe in addition to the milk diet.
