Betel (Piper betel)
Betel leaf has a positive stimulatory influence on intestinal digestive enzymes, especially lipase, amylase and disaccharidases. The betel leaf varieties have shown decreasing influence on pancreatic trypsin and chymotrypsin activities.
As a precautionary measure a small stock of few fresh Betel (Piper betel) leaves in the refrigerator will come handy.
In case of flatulence, take two green betel leaves and apply a thin layer of sesame oil or mustard oil on their surfaces as recommended by Indian Ayurveda. Slightly warm the oiled surface, ensuring that the temperature can be tolerated by the baby.
Cover the infant's stomach with these warm leaves. This measure expels flatus, helps avoid internal medication and provides comfort to the baby.
