New Delhi, July 27th, 2009: The Board of Directors of Dabur India Ltd (DIL) met here today to consider the unaudited financial results of the company for the first quarter ending June 30, 2009.

The 2009-10 fiscal began on a strong note for Dabur India Ltd with all its key categories of Hair Care (hair oils and shampoos), Oral Care (toothpastes), Skin Care, Health Supplements, Digestives and Foods reporting robust volume-driven growth. The Company ended the first quarter of 2009-10 with a 29.4% surge in consolidated Net Profit at Rs 91.39 Crores, up from Rs 70.65 Crores a year ago. The Company’s consolidated Net Sales for the first quarter marked a 23% growth to Rs 742.66 Crores, up from Rs 603.98 Crores in the same quarter last year.

"The overall gloomy scenario in the economy notwithstanding, consumer spending in FMCG continues to remain strong, and we have sustained growth across all our key categories. The hair care category for Dabur reported 22.5% growth, led by Vatika shampoo, which grew by a strong 48.6% during the quarter. With this, Dabur now controls 7.3% of the overall shampoo market, up from 6.4% in the same quarter last year. Our continued focus on offering best-in-class products and managing costs has helped deliver strong profit growth. We will continue to drive our business to deliver competitive and profitable growth," Dabur India Ltd Chief Executive Officer Mr. Sunil Duggal said.

Dabur’s Toothpaste business reported a robust near 20.7% growth during the quarter, and has upped its share of the toothpaste market to 13.1% from 12.2% a year ago. The Health Supplements business grew by 17.2%, while the Baby & Skin Care business, riding on growing demand for the Gulabari range of rose-based mainstream skin care products, reported a growth of 19.7% during the quarter. Brand Gulabari alone reported a 47.2% growth during the quarter. The Foods business too grew by 21.6% during the quarter.

"What’s most encouraging is the fact that this growth is entirely volume-driven, and we are confident that our volume growth would continue to remain robust in both urban as well as rural areas in the coming months too," Mr. Duggal added.

The first quarter saw Dabur India Ltd roll out a host of new products, which have been very well received in the market. The new introductions during the quarter include a fruit beverage Burrst, fragrant light hair oil Dabur Amla Flower Magic and a new Ayurvedic shampoo under the Dabur brand, Dabur Total Protect Health Shampoo.

During the quarter, Dabur India Ltd also completed the acquisition of Fem Care Pharma Ltd, a leading player in the women’s skin care products market. "With this, Fem Care Pharma is now a subsidiary of Dabur India Ltd. The transaction has helped consolidate our position in the high-growth skin care market, where Dabur has now become the third largest player," said Dabur India Ltd Chairman Dr. Anand Burman.

Dabur’s overseas business continued to grow at a rapid pace with the division recording an impressive growth of 52.9%, led by robust performance in GCC, Egypt, Levant, North African and South Asian markets. "Sales in the GCC region reported a 65% growth, while Dabur Egypt witnessed an over 63% growth during the quarter. The South Asian markets too performed well with sales in Bangladesh surging by 80% and Nepal by 62% during the first quarter of 2009-10. The quarter also saw Dabur enter three new overseas markets of Uzbekistan, Guinea and Belarus," Dabur India Ltd Group Director Mr. P D Narang said.
