At Dabur, we have also been working towards empowering women in the hinterland, through skill enhancement programmes.
1. Nari Shankti Kendra
During our community meetings, women from all backgrounds had expressed a desperate need to augment their household income. However, lack of skills had been a big stumbling block. Understanding their need, we have been engaged in providing vocational training to women in several villages across three states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
The programmes being offered under this initiative have been prepared after detailed discussions with the community and assessing their needs. Women are particularly encouraged to take up these income-generation programmes and are awarded certificates after the completion of training. After completing these courses, they are now supplementing their household income. In 2015-16, we have provided vocational training to 569 women.
2. Swavalambhan
Dabur rolled out a new initiative for improving employability of rural youth by enhancing their skill set and also provide them employment opportunities. The programme sought to enhance the quality of life of rural youth through improved knowledge and skills. After completion of the course, we also provide employment opportunity.
The courses being offered under the Swavalamban programme include Sales (for Salesman/Selling skills), Merchandising (for Visibility of Product and POS), and Promoter (for Attending customer). The 240-hour course includes in-house coaching, field training and exams & extra-curricular activity.
