  • Take plenty of water every day.
  • Common recommendation is to take at least eight to 12 glasses daily.
  • Fluids such as coconut water are recommended as they are rich in nutrients as well as maintain hydration.
  • In women with morning sickness plenty of fluids are to be taken when there is no nausea.
  • Caffeine should be avoided because it increases the need to urinate and leads to further fluid loss.
  • Water is ideal, but other fluids that can be taken include milk, natural fruit juices, and soup.

Lifestyle changes recommended to prevent dehydration during pregnancy include

  • Regular exercise but ensuring that exercise is moderate and the woman is adequately hydrated to prevent excessive sweating and fluid loss.
  • Staying indoors/ in cool surroundings/ avoiding sun bathing
